Iyar - Sivan

It is interesting to note that the name of the month Iyar is actually of Babylonian origin. In fact, it is referred to as "Ziv" meaning brightness and/or splendor.

At any rate, things Jewish do indeed begin blossoming in more ways then one during this month. However, the month is only a prelude to one of the most amazing and important moments in our history -- the giving of the Torah at Mt. Sinai in the month of Sivan.

Perhaps Psalm 119 verse 18 says it best. "Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law." The Torah was not received on Shavuot. Hashem gave it to us.

Truly, there was and is a duality in the wonderful blooming of all things living in this special month.

Mission Statement of the Jewish Men's Club of Sussex County

Our goal is to grow, strengthen, unify and service the Jewish Community of Sussex County. Our belief is that by enhancing our community's ability to study, pray, and enjoy group-leisure activities, we will thereby be enriching all brethren that request or require our assistance.

Membership

Perhaps you are already a devout and religious Jew or perhaps you are not. The nice thing about the Jewish Men's Club of Sussex County is that you needn't be either.

The Jewish Men's Club of Sussex County seeks to help define and enlighten those who want to learn more about what it means to be a Jew.

The JMCSC invites you to gather with other Jewish men in Sussex County at our monthly meetings. The club also sponsors group trips, sporting events, Torah Scholar study sessions and other interesting and informative programs.

Men's Club Event

The Brooklyn Cyclones (NY Mets Farm Team) plays their games in Coney Island and will be celebrating Jewish Heritage at the game on Sunday July 13 at 5:00PM. The Jewish Men’s Club of Sussex County will be sponsoring a trip to this game.

Tickets for the best seats in the house are only $15.00 and reasonably priced parking is readily available... In order to get the tickets ordered on time I need your check (made out to Jewish Men’s Club) for $15.00 per seat in my hands by Tuesday June 19.

Bring the whole family and let’s have a great showing when The Jewish Men’s Club of Sussex County takes you out to the ballgame

All In The Family

Don't forget the wonderful celebration of Shavuot and mark your calendars for your local Shavuot celebration. Shavuot is celebrated over two days.

On Monday June 9th at 6:00pm there will be a tremendous celebration of Shavuot for both children and adults. There will be lots of sweet things to eat and lots of Torah to hear.

The festivities take place at Chabad on Woodport Road in Sparta.

Prayer services are on Sunday night June 8th from 8:15 to 9:45pm and Tuesday morning June 10th at 9:30am. Tuesday morning includes Yizkor(memorial) Prayer.
